One Week Until D23 Expo!

Mickey D23 Expo

We’re down to one week until the D23 Expo starts, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ll have a couple of days to play in the parks before the event starts, but we’re so close that we are just finalizing our game-plan for the event. As always, we’ve made a list of must have essentials for any Disney trip, with special considerations for an event of this scale. Being first time attendees, we want to be prepared for anything!

Here’s what we’ll be taking with us in addition to the usual essentials:
iPad Air 2: We plan on waiting in a lot of lines, so having a device loaded with things to read, watch and play is essential.
GoPro Hero 3: How else will we capture all the magic?
Extra Batteries: The GoPro is notorious for terrible battery life, so extra batteries will keep us going all day
Mobile Phone: Staying connected is a must, especially so we can follow along and see what’s happening onsite at the event.
External Battery Pack: Always a must when you’re taking photos, videos and posting on social media. This will help us avoid having to waste time sitting along the wall charging our devices.
D23 Mobile App: So much is going on at this event, we’ll have our schedule set up beforehand but can also get push notifications & stay connected to find out what else is going on.
Disneyland Mobile App: To see up to the minute wait times and optimize our visits to the park.
Roam Mobility USA SIM Card: An essential for us Canadians visiting the Unite States and not wanting to pay astronomical mobile roaming rates. Unfortunately as of this writing the Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland Resort do not have WiFi (with the exception of the hotels).  The mobile app has some cool features we want to use, but having a data connection is a must. We’ve never used this service before, so look for a review once we’re back.
Small Backpack: To carry everything in and make our lives much easier!
That’s the list so far, did we miss anything? Let us know in the comments!

DCA Glow with the Show ears are amazing!

Today in awesome & amazing, Disney California Adventure has introduced the latest in their theme park technological upgrades with the new “Glow with the Show” Mickey Mouse ears. Essentially these light up ears use technology that allows them to sync with World of Color and The Mad ‘T’ Party. The LED’s in the ears blink and pulse to make you a part of the show. How awesome is that! They remind us of the old “Magical Moments Pins” from Walt Disney World that would interact with rides and shows, except these are much more impressive. They cost $25 and look to be something that locals will get more out of than tourists. Nonetheless they are amazing. Check out this video of them in action: Continue reading

The "Mad T Party" Has Arrived at DCA

Things are rapidly changing for the better at Disney California Adventure (Cars Land, Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, the whole front entrance being rebuilt from scratch), and the Mad T Party is no exception. Replacing the uber-popular ElecTRONica, it’s the same fun dance party vibe, with a new theme: Alice in Wonderland. The official debut it June 15. So far, reviews are great from the soft open, meaning it can only get better. To get an idea of what the Mad T Party really is, watch the video below.

Beginning June 15, it’s down the Rabbit Hole for guests as they enter “Mad T Party,” a fantastic world of imagery and imagination inspired by Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” at Disney California Adventure Park. It’s a party like no other, a new nighttime experience where up is down and everything is wonderfully off-kilter – complete with live music, plenty of dancing, unique entertainment, tasty treats, games and fanciful merchandise offerings.
“Mad T Party” energizes the park nightly starting at dusk through the end of summer. The festivities continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights throughout the year in Hollywood Land.  As guests enter “Mad T Party,” they pass through a whimsical, fog-filled Rabbit Hole gateway. On the other side awaits a bright and vivid alternate reality club bursting with a “Mad” twist of fun and excitement.

  • The centerpiece of “Mad T Party” is a wildly themed, oversized tea table set under a canopy of fanciful lanterns. The tea table doubles as a state-of-the art concert stage.
  • The “Mad T Party” band rocks the night with live music. The band consists of stylized characters inspired by “Alice in Wonderland,” including the Mad Hatter as lead vocalist, Dormouse on lead guitar, March Hare on bass, Cheshire Cat on drums, Caterpillar on keys, and even a special appearance by Alice herself.
  • When the “Mad T Party” band is not performing, the White Rabbit DJ keeps the party going with upbeat pop rock and house music.
  • Adjacent to the main stage is the House of Cards, a place for games, dancing, drinks, live entertainment and specialty acts. “The Who R U” performs a completely mesmerizing and morphing act that challenges a guest’s senses.
  • The Mad Hatter has assembled fun, new games with a very “Mad” twist. Guests may find themselves frantically trying to Paint the Roses Red or bravely battling the Jabberwocky and Jub Jub birds, as they expand their mind and discover their inner Hatter.
  • At the Mad Arcade, guests enjoy classic, interactive games that have a wacky Wonderland flair. There’s even a journey inside the world of “Alice in Wonderland.”
  • Guests may purchase food from a themed food truck, along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at several locations including the “Drink Me” Bar and House of Cards Bar.

“Mad T Party” adds to the excitement of the grand reopening of Disney California Adventure, including the premiere of two highly anticipated themed lands, Buena Vista Street and Cars Land, with four new attractions and all-new dining and shopping locations.  The grand reopening celebrates the five-year transformation of Disneyland Resort, a world-class, multi-day, family vacation destination.

Cars Land at DCA opens June 15…plus more magic!

After five long years of construction, renovation and refurbishment, Disney California Adventure will be debuting 4 new attractions on June 15. The biggest expansion in its history, Cars Land, is set to be the biggest draw. If you haven’t heard, Radiator Springs Racers is the big “E” Ticket attraction, building upon the technology and innovation of Test Track at Epcot. The area is said to be the latest of many “hyper themed” lands at theme parks worldwide, a trend started by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando.  In addition, the brand new entrance area of Carthay Circle will showcase Hollywood as Walt would have experienced it in 1923. It’s going to be great to see the park the way it was meant to be, after over 10 years of growing pains. Disney has finally fixed the problems with the park and can now call it a world class destination. The park will be closed to guests on June 14 to prepare for the media event the next day. It should be quite magical! Find out more details below…. Continue reading
